Back Injury Prevention Training That Works!

The Michigan Mine Safety & Health Training Program Now offers a new patented back-injury prevention training developed by Dr. Michael Schaefer. Mines that follow up and continue to refresh employees with the techniques taught are expected to reduce back-injury related costs by more than half.

Mine Safety Train-the-Trainer Course & Outline

This is a 3-day surface metal/nonmetal mine safety train-the-trainer course offered by Michigan Technological University . It can also be downloaded and used as an outline for other training programs to use in training new trainers. The course is designed to provide surface metal/nonmetal mine instructors a broad knowledge of mine safety and health.

Four hour 1st Aid Program meeting requirements of Part 56(57).18010.

The Michigan Mine Safety Program has developed a new 4 hour First Aid Program for Michigan miners that meets the requirements of CFR 30 Part 56(57).18010. The 4 hour time frame makes it convenient for mine operators because two classes can be given in one working day. Not all trainees need be off the job at the same time. The course includes lecture, overhead slides, and "hands on" training. For more information you can e-mail Dave Carlson at dcarlson@mtu.edu or telephone at (906) 487-2453

Mine Contractor Training

Contractor employees normally require training before working on mine sites. This includes sand and gravel operations and cement manufacturing facilities. If training requirements are not met, contractor employees may be forced to leave the property and the contractor, as well as the mine operator, may be fined. Go here for further information.

MTU Contract Training

Some mine operators (or other businesses) may wish to contract directly to us, rather than be trained as part of the States Grants Program. Various types of training to meet regulations of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are available by arrangement. Contact the program manager.
